Characters

Paul: A pretty average dude going to mardis gras with a friend/lover

Mariam: A woman, with a mind to do things the old way.

An imposing man: This man procures goats for the discerning sacrificer

Setting

An empty storefront off the side of the mardis gras parade, the windows are boarded and the floor is cleared except for an array of candles spread out to make an alter space

At Rise

The sounds of beads shaking, drums pounding, and happy chanting fills the air of the theatre, as from all off stage areas noise is being made. Mariam is there lighting candles as the lights come up, through a slightly ajar door Paul enters the space and sees Mariam. Shouting over the noise

Paul: Mariam! Mariam

She just hearing looks over and sees him

Mariam: Paul?

Paul: Jesus i told you not to run off

Mariam: What?

Paul: I told you not to run off!

Mariam: You don't have to be so mad about it

Paul: What are you doing in here?

Mariam: I was following a friend, getting set up!

Paul: What friend?

she answers but a loud firecracker followed by cheers covers it

Paul: I didn't catch that.

Mariam: He should be back soon.

Paul: Who should be back soon?

Mariam: Help me hold this.

She hands him a rope

Paul: What is this for? Look we are gonna miss Rex

An imposing nearly nude man enters with a goat as Mariam draws a large knife.

Mariam: This is better than rex

Paul: What?

Mariam: It's the true mardis gras experience.

Paul: What?

The large man sets the goat down beside Paul

Paul: Ah!
