Hello there
By Daniel Brothers
For my brother Robby,
“I left a steady plane for worlds of uncertainty
I miss the sureness of my feet, but god…
...what wonders there are to see”
Note: This show Should be roughly 8 minutes and cast actors skilled in improv.
At Rise: A park bench with some bushes behind it, obscuring the backgroun. The lights fade up.
[Jeremy enters from stage left, he sits nervously. Checks his watch. He is dressed like one would for a first date after a period of having no first dates.]
[Mary enters from stage right, Takes note of Jeremy. She is dressed in a similar and coincidentally matching fashion]
[the following exchange occurs after 1-2 minutes of wordless exchange]
Jeremy: Are you Mary?
Mary: Yes. Jeremy?
Jeremy: next Tuesday?
Mary: Sounds lovely
[ they both exit to separate sides of the stage, the lights dim and then come back up,
[Jeremy enters, wearing a slightly different outfit. He sits. Now casually. Expecting something]
[Mary enters, wearing a slightly different outfit, she is looking forward to today knowingly]
Mary: Jeremy
Jeremy: Mary
[they begin to vigorously make out, and fall behind the bench and bushes, nothing is heard for a moment and then Passerby walks by casually, they walk behind the bench and are shocked by what they see. They continue walking]
[Mary jumps up from behind the bench, hype about what just happened. Jeremy crawls out around utterly exhausted and also content]
Mary: Wonderful
Jeremy: Always a pleasure
Mary: Tuesday work for you?
Jeremy: Actually Wednesday would be better
Mary: Sounds good
[ they exit opposite sides of the stage, the lights dim and come back up]
[mary enters first, she is nervous as she was on the first date, she sits]
[jeremy enters, he is looking forward to what he thinks will happen]
Jeremy: mary!
Mary: Jeremy? [pause] Would you want to get some dinner some time?
Jeremy: Oh! I uh
Mary: the third date i mean. You know.
[Jeremy is surprised and looks uncertain, mary gives him the eyes]
Jeremy: [smiling honestly] Well alright
[ He goes in for a kiss, and instead grabs her hand and they exit the stage together.]
[ As the exit the passerby is walk across the stage the other way]
Passerby: What strange people.
