A Time To Remember
A Time to Remember
By Daniel Brothers
For my brother Robby,
“I left a steady plane for worlds of uncertainty
I miss the sureness of my feet, but god…
...what wonders there are to see”
Characters
Minute; A representation of a construct
Hour: A representation of a construct
Second: A representation of a construct
Man: A soon to be father, whose wife had complications with the birth
At rise: Standing in the center of the stage is Person. They are looking at their watch. Circling them at different paces is Minute Hour and second.
Second: I wonder what he is waiting for?
Minute: Oh I don’t know his wife was around for a while
Hour: He is going to be a father
Second: Yes but right now he isn’t doing anything how can he just be waiting around for it to happen can’t you like go in there and hype the mom up to pop em out faster i mean come on!
Minute: I don’t think that’s how it works
Hour: Nope
Minute: But even then this isn’t a usual birth
Hour: [sighs] nope
Second: OF course it’s not, that why he is waiting waiting waiting out here like god diggity damn this has been such a long time.
Man: How long has it been? [looks at watch]
Minute: Like 5 minutes
Hour: No time at all
Second: Too fucking long!
Man: [taps foot and looks nervous]
Minute: The doctor did say it would only be another few minutes before he could join them
Hour: Dr. Usually knows what’s up
Second: Yeah except for when he doesn’t, what do you even have to do to be a doctor walk around in a lab coat? Shoot people with medicine juice? Sounds easy I can do it
Minute: I doubt that.
Hour: We aren’t really anything but devices for representing the construct of time
Second: Yeah and some of us are better than others you know what I’m saying
Minute: We always know what you’re saying
Hour: seems like you never stop saying
Second: How could I spare even aa moment when after that one is the next one! I have to keep going or else i could stop. And then what would I do? I’d wait for far too long and wonder what the FUCK the doctor is taking so long for? I’m standing here
Minute: If you let yourself think for one of those moments you might be able to plan a bit better. Help you consider what might be helpful, what might make sense. Set things up. If I could just remember why.
Hour: You never can remember something for long. Even for all your practicality it never sticks. We’re all on such a short wavelength here. There are bigger things to consider?
Man: Yes? I can see her, them? Oh thank god Thank you. Ha ha!!! Amazing.
Hour: A time to remember.
